On the 1st June 2017, Aphrodite Hills Golf was crowned with the ‘Green Club’ eco-label of the year by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA).
We are the first golf club in Cyprus to have received this distinguished award. The acquisition of the ‘Green Club’ requires the implementation and observance of criteria related to energy consumption, water consumption, waste management, the use of environmentally friendly personal cleanliness and detergents, food and drink quality and environmental education.
Andrew Darker, the Director of Golf referred in his speech to the “multi-level efforts made for the sustainable operation of the Golf Club, which we will continuously develop”. The General Secretary of CYMEPA - Dr. Michael Ierides mentioned that the ‘Green Key International’ eco-label is one of the programmes of the Foundation for Environmental Education, an international NGO with the aim of promoting sustainable development and environmental education.
‘Green Club’ is a pioneering environmental quality mark for all golf clubs. It is based on the criteria of ‘Green Key’, enriched with additional criteria for golf clubs. The programme is done in co-operation with the Cyprus Tourism Organization. Mrs. Annita Demetriadou, CTO Tourism Director, who attended the Award Ceremony referred to the importance of golf for tourism, welcomed the efforts of all staff, thanked them for their co-operation, congratulated CYMEPA and awarded the plaque and certificates. We are very proud and honoured to have received this prestigious award and it is very important that we all work together to tackle and achieve environmental best practices for the future.
