Prestigious awards for Son Muntaner and Son Vida golf courses

27 March 2018

The golf industry's "Oscar" goes to Mallorca

Not one but two golf courses that make up Arabella Hospitality's 63-hole golf resort on Mallorca can take pride in having received a prestigious award: The Son Muntaner golf course was awarded the Gold Flag at this year's 59Club award ceremony on 26 February 2018, while the Bronze Flag went to the venerable Son Vida course.

59Club, a UK-based company that provides performance benchmarking for the golf and leisure industries extended an invitation to its annual Service Excellence Awards Ceremony for what was the eighth time. Prizes are awarded to the best golf courses around the world, which are evaluated four times a year by an independent visitor panel on the basis of predefined criteria. A close look is taken at service excellence across all the areas of business involved in operating a golf course. This starts with the booking: Are new customers provided with detailed information about the special features of the golf course, is the staff friendly and helpful, is the quality of the fairways, greens and bunkers spot on? The evaluation includes the cleanliness of the whole club, the services and facilities offered, and the range of food and beverages provided.

The "Oscars" of the golf industry, the Gold Flag, were awarded to a total of 16 golf clubs that excelled as a result of their outstanding service standards. The Son Muntaner golf course, a challenging 18-hole championship course designed by Kurt Rossknecht and offering a wide variety of fairways and flag positions, is one of them. Among the nine winners of the Bronze Flag was the venerable Son Vida golf course, which was redesigned by the renowned golf course designer Kurt Rossknecht and offers spectacular views of the Mallorcan countryside. Thanks to their high quality standards, both courses performed outstandingly well in a field of 120 golf clubs and not only scored points with the top-notch quality of their overall facilities but also impressed the jury with their exceptionally good culinary offerings and the friendliness of their staff.

A golfers' paradise
There is a total of four golf courses on Malloraca that belong to Arabella Hospitality, a subsidiary of the Munich-based Schörghuber Corporate Group which bundles the hotel and golf activities of the family-owned company. The 18-hole Son Quint golf course was opened in 2007 and is located in the immediate vicinity of the two renowned golf courses Son Vida and Son Muntaner, which have helped make the region around Son Vida one of the top golfing destinations in Europe. Son Quint is a challenging course which, with its innovative gastronomy concept, provides a diverse range of offerings. The Son Muntaner golf course, which is situated in the middle of an idyllic pine grove, delights with its generous fairways, good greens and attractive water hazards. Son Vida, the oldest and most venerable golf course on Mallorca, was officially opened in 1964 by Prince Rainier of Monaco. The course offers challenges to golfers of all levels. In 2009, the 9-hole short course Son Quint Pitch + Putt raised the total number of holes to 63. At the Arabella Golf Academy, experienced golf professionals provide golfers with comprehensive training and coaching. Three outstanding hotels neatly round off Arabella Hospitality's range of tourist attractions on the Balearic Island: the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort, Castillo Hotel Son Vida and the Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel with its award-winning gourmet restaurant and exclusive spa areas.
