Quinta do Lago will reward improving golfers

06 February 2018

Keen golfers wanting to improve their game now have even more incentive to lower their handicap with the lure of winning an incredible getaway to Quinta do Lago, one of Europe’s premier golf and lifestyle destinations.

The luxurious Algarve resort has teamed up with Clubs to Hire to reward any player who reduces their handicap by 10 per cent during the season with free entry into a draw to win the amazing trip scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2018.

This unique event, called the ‘Race to Quinta do Lago’, has 24 places up for grabs and the lucky finalists, who will be supplied with top-of-the-range clubs from Faro Airport courtesy of Clubs to Hire, get to enjoy a one-night stay at the newly-refurbished boutique-style Magnolia Hotel.

And the finalists will get the chance to put their improved handicap to the test by playing Quinta do Lago’s highly acclaimed Laranjal, a stunning 72-par layout that was named Portugal’s Best Golf Course 2011 at the Portuguese Travel Awards.

Also included in the prize is a lavish gala dinner and presentation night, breakfast the following morning, unlimited practice balls on the state-of-the-art driving range, and free buggies with personalised name badge.

Sean Moriarty, chief executive of Quinta do Lago, said: “This is a very exciting partnership for all parties, in particular for golfers. We all strive to reduce our handicap, regardless of the standard of golf we play, so this tie-up is aimed at rewarding those who manage to do that.

“The finalists will get the chance to stay at our newly acquired Magnolia Hotel, a chic but laid-back boutique-style hotel, which has just been totally refurbished, and to enjoy a dinner in the restaurant after playing Laranjal, which really is a fabulous golf course.

“So, my advice to all golfers is to get out there, play lots of golf and we look forward to seeing you here at Quinta do Lago in November.”

Club to Hire’s chief executive Tony Judge added: “Clubs to Hire and Quinta do Lago meets golfers of all standard during the golfing year and we thought this was the perfect event to engage with our customers and give something back.”

The competition is open to all golfers who hold an official and regulated golfing union or similar golf handicap. Golfers wishing to register for this exciting deal must log into clubstohire.com/race-quinta-lago and follow the link before submitting their details in the boxes that appear on-screen.

Irish Golfer magazine has also joined forces with Quinta do Lago and Clubs to Hire as the publication is the official media partner of the venture. Between them, the trio reach more than one million golfers a year.

Quinta do Lago boasts three highly acclaimed courses altogether – all of which remain in the top 15 of the Best Golf Courses of Portugal 2018 in the Top 100 Courses.

The South Course climbed one place to number eight in the rankings, and with only four Portuguese layouts improving their position, it highlighted the South Course’s ever-growing popularity. Both Quinta do Lago’s North Course and Laranjal maintained their high standing by remaining in 12th and 15th in the coveted rankings.

Located just 15 minutes from Faro airport, the luxury resort is in the process of investing a seven-figure sum to its already impressive list of facilities – the most high-profile of which is THE CAMPUS, a state-of-the-art sporting facility that will provide the perfect training base for both beginners and world-class athletes in all fields.

That is in addition to the 10 highly acclaimed restaurants, such as Bovino, one of the best-loved dining experiences in the Algarve, complementing the sophisticated setting of Casa Velha and the hugely popular Shack, one of the coolest spots around, situated on the lake’s shoreline.

About Quinta do Lago
Since its inception in 1972, Quinta do Lago has been at the forefront of international golf, hosting eight Portuguese Opens as well as numerous other international tournaments. Home to three world-class golf courses, the resort also boasts a wealth of cutting-edge practice facilities.

  • Quinta do Lago North Course – Opening in October 2014, the totally revamped North Course has been redeveloped by renowned American golf architect Beau Well in close collaboration with 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley and is set to become one of the new stars of European golf. The new layout has been built to the highest specifications with a €9.6m investment programme and has been redeveloped with the emphasis firmly on precision and strategy. While many modern-day developments tend to focus on length, Welling and McGinley have been keen to design a golfing experience where accuracy and course management are the key factors, and a course that is playable and fun for golfers of all abilities.
  • Quinta do Lago South Course – A favourite among European Tour professionals, the South Course calls for accurate drives and precise shots, but rewards players for their efforts with the stunning backdrop of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Regularly included in Golf World magazine’s ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Europe’, the par-72 layout has received widespread praise for its strategically-placed hazards and varying difficulty across the 18 holes. Having hosted the Portuguese Open on no fewer than eight occasions, the South Course is regarded as one of Portugal’s premier golfing venues.
  • Laranjal – Designed in the grounds of an orange grove, the par-72 course was named as Portugal’s Best Golf Course 2011 at the Portuguese Travel Awards, and poses serious tests for players of all abilities. Opened in 2008, Laranjal offers a pure golfing experience right next to the Quinta do Lago estate and features fairways sown with Bermuda grass, providing a challenging playing environment in a picture-perfect setting.
  • Paul McGinley Academy – Quinta do Lago is home to the only Paul McGinley Academy in the world, founded in October 2011 by Europe’s 2014 Ryder Cup captain. With a strong involvement from McGinley himself, who is a regular visitor to the resort, the academy aims to cultivate and improve golfers’ play by providing them with the tools and techniques used on the professional Tours. The academy focuses especially on younger players, working in collaboration with local schools and is the perfect way to follow in the footsteps of the pros.
  • TaylorMade Performance Center – Quinta do Lago’s TaylorMade Performance Centre is the only facility of its kind in Portugal and is located on the resort’s expansive driving range. Opened in May 2013, the centre is operated by trained TaylorMade technicians, offering golfers a custom-fitting experience testing hundreds of club and iron options, ensuring the best combination for every player’s swing. It also has a fully-equipped Tour standard workshop and utilises FlightScope X2 radar technology to measure the entire flight of the ball from impact to landing whilst displaying its 3D trajectory in real time.

Set amongst 2,000 acres of the picturesque Ria Formosa Natural Park and located just 15 minutes from Faro airport, Quinta do Lago offers residents and guests an unparalleled location benefiting from a year-round temperate climate, a variety of lifestyle pursuits and a strong sense of community.
