Back-to-back wins for Georgia Hall at The Shire London

02 August 2020

Georgia Hall emerges victorious at the Rose Ladies Series hosted at Seve Ballesteros’ one and only UK designed golf course

2018 Women’s British Open winner, Georgia Hall once again clinched victory at the Rose Ladies Series with a stunning -5 under par at The Shire London, taking her sailing into the Grand Final. Playing the only Seve Ballesteros designed course in the UK, Hall’s consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th helped seal the deal.

Hall, who finished 3 shots clear of Liz Young and Kylie Henry, was quick to sing the praises of the Seve Ballesteros designed challenge following her victory, which highlights the fantastic work that Head Greenkeeper, George Stillwell and his team had done in presenting the course.

Commenting on her win, Hall said: “I played really solid out there, I held some good putts near the end. The greens here were quick, but great quality!”

The Major Champion was far from the only player to highlight the quality and condition of the course, which has undergone recent ground-breaking changes with the help of world-famous Dye golf course design group. This includes inter-seeding its greens with leading bentgrass developer, Tee-2-Green’s, Pure Distinction, used on some of the world’s most famous and respected golf courses.

Speaking after a remarkable seventh event in the inaugural series, Ceri Menai-Davis, Director of The Shire London, commented: “It has been such an honour to welcome a selection of the UK’s best and most promising up-and-coming female golfers to showcase The Shire London’s fantastic offerings, and huge congratulations to Georgia Hall on her well-deserved victory.”

Ceri Menai-Davis added: “Without the hard work and dedication of all my team, to deliver a Championship golf course in superb condition, this event simply wouldn’t have been possible. A huge thank you to all of those who have made this happen.”

He concluded: “This series has helped boost the women’s game in many ways, and by becoming a signatory of The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter, we look to play our part to encourage more women and girls into the game.”

About The Shire London (Bridgedown Group)
The Shire London is the only UK golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros.

Set within close proximity to the capital, The Shire London features six par threes, six par fours and six par fives with no two consecutive holes of the same par, on either nine. The conditioning of the course is one of The Shire London’s standout features thanks to the Bridgedown Group’s recent investment into the golf course with the added benefit of no temporary greens throughout the winter months, affording golfers the opportunity to play the course in excellent condition all-year round. Over the past 12 months, the Bridgedown Group has worked alongside the world famous Dye golf course design group to bring about further improvement, including the inter-seeding of its greens with Tee-2-Green’s Pure Distinction bent grass, already used on some of the world’s most famous and respected golf courses. Golfers can experience high-quality on and off the course; Affordable Luxury is The Shire London’s secret.

The Shire’s story began in 2001 when the Menai-Davis family, current owners of the Bridgedown Group, invited Seve Ballesteros to visit a plot of land in North London where they intended to build a golf course. Just 72 hours later, a deal with Seve was signed to build what would become The Shire London. In 2007, the course opened its doors and was an instant hit with the golfing world. The Shire London prides itself on breaking away with the stuffy formality found at other golf courses in the area and has become a firm favourite with a wide range of golfers looking to enjoy a first-class golf course at affordable prices.

Alongside the golf course, The Shire London boasts a nine-hole Academy course, driving range, a new short game area (laid out across a vast 750m² expanse), gym and spacious clubhouse to relax in before or after your round. In addition, the function room provides the perfect space to host unforgettable bespoke events – from the perfect wedding day to a memorable family celebration.
