Thailand’s top rated Golf Regions and Resorts await you!

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that Visa Global Travel Intentions Study listed Thailand has been rated as the fourth most attractive travel destination in the world post-pandemic.  Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Hua Hin being the top Thai cities global travellers look up online, coincidently also the most high-profile golf destinations within the Kingdom.

The study, which was carried out during January-October 2021, analysed data from over 7,000 keywords searched by travellers from 62 countries as well as Thailand’s travel information, to five Thai tourist cities and travellers’ sentiments regarding the pandemic’s impact on travel situation.

According to the study, top three motivations for global travellers intending to visit Thailand are leisure pursuits (30%), the chance to escape and relax (25%), and outdoor adventure (18%). This demonstrates visitors are looking for stress-free holidays that provide optimum opportunities to relax, get outdoors, and leave the worries of the pandemic behind.

Bucket List Golf in the Kingdom

Bangkok, with over 60 courses for visitors to chose from including the Thai Country Club where Tiger Woods still has a locker to the new Royal Gems Golf City – Dream Arena where players tee it up on a back 9 that is a replica of Augusta National.

Hua Hin, two of the top courses in the country, Black Mountain Golf Club a Top 100 in the World by Golf Digest and Banyan Golf Club another multi award winner, including “Best in Asia” by Asian Golf Awards 2018.

Phuket: Carved out of an old tin mine, the Red Mountain Golf Club is often considered Phuket’s best course. With its mountainous setting each hole provides spectacular jungle views in a background of red clay. The Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Country Club is a 3-time host of the Johnny Walker Classic of which Tiger Woods prevailed in 1988

Chiang Mai: Considered one of the best in Thailand, Chiang Mai Highlands Resort, a unique 27-hole complex in a natural setting. Alpine Golf Resort is another 27-hole layout set in the mountains east of Chiang Mai. This lush layout is a popular one for locals and visitors alike.

Golf in the Kingdom would not be complete if we did not include the seaside City of Pattaya. One stop, the Siam Country Club will put you on to 4 of the best in Asia. The Old Course is home to the Honda LPGA Thailand, the Plantation Course having been the prior host course and newcomer Rolling Hills gives you a unique links experience, especially if you face the “wall of death” a greenside bunker on the 15th hole.

The study also revealed that, when in Thailand, tourists are most likely to head for activities and attractions that have made Thailand famous. The top activity preferences are going for a famous Thai massage, eating Thai food at cafes and restaurants, spending time at their resort, and embracing Thai culture; such as, visiting a Buddhist temple.

Visa cited a study by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) that Thailand’s tourism industry is showing signs of recovery with increasing visitor numbers over the next three years expected to reach around 46.96 million by the end of 2024. The ongoing relaxation of tourist entry requirements throughout the year should make it easier for tourists to return to Thailand.
