Las Colinas hosts thrilling second stage of European Tour Q-School

14 November 2017

Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, one of Europe’s most acclaimed golfing destinations, played host to the European Tour Qualifying School 2nd Stage for a seventh time over the weekend. The event culminated in a tense final round where a 10 man play-off was needed to decide the final two spots from the 21 man group qualifying for the next stage.

With the Troon-managed course in stunning condition and earning praise from the strong field on show, the battle at Las Colinas saw the South African Jacques Kruyswijk come out on top winning by one shot with a score of 17 under. The omens were good from the start for Kruyswijk, who in the first round shot an incredible 61, a new course record.

Of the 21 players progressing through to the next stage, a notable mention must go to 16 year old South-Korean Minkyu Kim, who shot an incredible final round 62 which propelled him to a final position of 6th.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t quite so comfortable for the players near the cut-off point involved in the nail-biting 10 man playoff. With all ten finishing the tournament on three under, the tense playoff eventually saw Argentinian Tommy Cocha and German Marcel Schneider coming through victorious and filling the final two spots of the 21 qualifiers.

Cristóbal Guerrero, Managing Director, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club was delighted with how the week went and the praise the resort received following its hosting of the event for a seventh time.

“It’s truly an honour to continue this partnership and work with the European Tour once again, continuing this partnership and we’re delighted with the feedback we’ve had from all the players, caddies and spectators,” said Guerrero. “We’d like to congratulate everyone that made the event truly memorable once again and wish good luck to all players who qualified for the next stage”.

Regarded as one of the best modern golf courses in Europe and as the best in Spain, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club’s Par 71 18-hole layout has built a world-class reputation for its year-round Championship-ready conditioning.
