Palmares welcomes summer with sports and lifestyle treat for guests

01 July 2024

Palmares Ocean Living & Golf is offering a traditional authentic Portuguese experience for golfers and guests to enjoy when they head to the award-winning golf resort on Portugal’s famous Algarve this summer.

Golf clinics, daily wine-tasting sessions, live cooking demonstrations and traditional Algarve nights feature amongst a wide and varied sports and lifestyle events programme that Palmares is staging each week until the middle of September.

At the heart of the eye-catching summer schedule is golf, one of the main attractions available at the resort which sits overlooking the Bay of Lagos and the Alvor Estuary.

Integrated into the natural amphitheatre of the Bay of Lagos, Palmares’ 27 holes have been making plenty of noise since being redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Jr in 2011. Consistently rated as one of Portugal’s best golf venues, the three nine-hole loops – Alvor, Lagos, Praia – sweep down to the oceanfront, delivering their own unique test.

As well as offering 18 holes including a buggy (two people sharing) for a ‘Summer Offer’ price of €101 per person, guests looking to take up the game can enjoy free 30-minute introduction golf classes every Tuesday and Thursday.

People who are eager to relax and unwind on their visit can take part in a complimentary yoga session at the driving range every Monday (mats provided) while those looking to indulge in some of the many gastronomic delights of the region are in for a real treat – with daily wine-tasting events, live cooking demonstrations and Algarve-themed nights all included in the packed summer programme.

Wine-tasting sessions offer a choice of three local wines and light snacks are available each day from 4pm to 5pm in Palmares’ boutique hotel for €25 per person.

Taking place every week from Wednesday to Sunday, ‘Live Cooking at Ofyr’ offers the chance to enjoy the culinary skills of Palmares head chef Louis Anjos on a specially created clubhouse à la carte menu while listening to live music and watching the sun set on another golden day. Alternatively, food lovers can experience a themed Algarve night each Tuesday, which features a special Portuguese set menu including dishes such as cataplana, clams, shrimps and others, or head to the resort’s Michelin star restaurant Al Sud for an evening of fine dining and culinary excellence.

There are also plenty of accommodation options available for golfers, couples and groups seeking an extended visit, with Palmares offering a choice of one, two or three-bedroom signature apartments or the chance to stay at the resort’s boutique five-star 20-room Palmares Beach House Hotel.

Palmares is one of nine golf courses managed by Details - Hospitality, Sports, Leisure – in Portugal, with others including Vilamoura, Aroeira and Vale Pisão. In addition, the group manages 15 hotels across the country.
