European Solheim Cup Captain announced as new golf ambassador

On the first anniversary of Team Europe completing one of the most dramatic Solheim Cup victories ever, Gleneagles, the world-famous hotel and sporting estate and the #1 Golf Resort in the UK & Ireland*, is proud to announce victorious captain, Catriona Matthew, as its new brand ambassador.

Edinburgh-born Catriona, will support a series of exciting future initiatives at the luxury 850-acre Perthshire estate, that include encouraging more families to enjoy the health and social benefits of playing golf, and developing new opportunities for women to take up the game.

Catriona commented: "Gleneagles has been at the heart of some very special personal memories for me, including winning the McDonald’s WPGA of Europe on The King's Course in 1998 and, of course, being captain of last year's victorious European Solheim Cup team…and that dramatic fairy-tale finish!

"I am also fortunate to spend private family time at Gleneagles from time to time, enjoying swimming and cycling with my husband and children, relaxing experiences we continue to love. Of course, it is a genuine honour to become an ambassador for such an iconic and special Scottish estate and I look forward to assisting the team with their plans for golf."

Conor O’Leary, Managing Director of Gleneagles, added: "Catriona is such a natural fit for Gleneagles, from both a professional and personal perspective. Last year's Solheim Cup created one of the World's great sporting moments that we will all cherish, but it is also Catriona's personal connection with ‘The Glorious Playground’, and her passion for spending family time with us, that also makes her a natural fit."

Catriona is a four-time LPGA winner and six-time Ladies European Tour winner and will once again captain the European Team when it defends The Solheim Cup at Inverness Golf Club, Toledo, Ohio, USA, in September next year.

To celebrate Catriona's announcement and her continued Solheim Cup captaincy in 2021, Gleneagles, the only venue in Europe to have hosted both The Ryder Cup and The Solheim Cup, has also introduced a special £221.00 Four-Ball offer, for a limited time only.

Applicable across all three championship courses – The PGA Centenary, The King's and The Queen's – from 16th October to 30 April 2021, further details are available at www.gleneagles.com

Bookings can also be made by telephone: 0800 389 3737.

Gleneagles also boasts over 50 pursuits beyond its manicured golf courses, including fly-fishing, falconry, cycling, off-roading, equestrian experiences and archery to name just a few. Guests can also try their hand at paddle boarding or canoeing on one of the hotel's very own lochs or take to the trees with a tree climbing and zip-wire experience.

About Gleneagles
Since opening its doors in June 1924, Gleneagles has been one of Scotland’s most iconic hotels and sporting estates. Set beneath the Ochil Hills, in the heart of Perthshire, it has been the must-go destination for travellers for nearly a century.

Beginning its life in the glamorous age of travel when guests arrived in great style at Gleneagles' very own train station, the 850-acre estate epitomises the natural beauty for which Scotland is famed. With its glorious playground of country pursuits and activities, the hotel is reclaiming its position on the social calendar.

Now under new owner Ennismore, Gleneagles has enlisted the skills and expertise of some of the UK's most acclaimed designers including David Collins Studio, Timorous Beasties, and Ennismore's own in-house design studio – with the aim to create designs and spaces that celebrate the rich, glamorous heritage and beautiful architecture for which the hotel is famed.
