Fred. Olsen Alps De La Gomera, The Decisive Leg of the Alps Tour

13 July 2022

The legendary golf course of Tecina Golf will be the scene of the 15th round of the Alps Tour, the third and last to be held in Spain. It will feature 10 winners of this years’ previous 11 tournaments and they will travel to the Canary Islands to compete for the Fred. Olsen Alps de La Gomera.

Ten winners, seven nationalities competing for the right to be crowned the winner of the Alps Tour. A circuit created in 2001 with the aim of giving younger golfers the opportunity to gain experience and reach the most important circuits. This prestigious tournament allows players to improve their World ranking and to join the Challenge Tour. This is the case of players such as Adri Arnáus, winner of the Alps Tour in 2017, Santiago Tarrío, winner in 2018, and Alfredo García Heredia, previous winner of this stage of the tournament, who played on the PGA Tour last week.

The most outstanding player is the young Frenchman Tom Vaillant, who at the age of 20 has already achieved two victories this year on the Alps Tour: the Open Mirabelle D'Or and the Alps of Andorra. He is currently in second place in the tournament. Vaillant has already practically assured his entrance to the Challenge Tour as he has had 7 top 10 finishes this year and his trajectory is meteoric. If he manages to achieve his third victory of the season, on the beautiful course of Tecina Golf, he would automatically jump to play the rest of the season in the Challenge Tour. This is a great incentive for him to bring his best game and to win the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera.

But the rest of the winners who will join him in the Canary Islands, to play one of the last tournaments of the season (there are 3 left at the end of the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera), are not going to make it easy for him.

The Dutchman Koen Kouwenaar, winner of the Molinetto Alps and number 4 in the ranking with 5 top 10 finishes; the Italian Stefano Mazzoli, ranked 5, winner of the Ein Bay Open, the first tournament of the season in which he has already achieved 6 top 10 finishes; the Swiss Mathias Eggenberg, winner of the Golf Nazionale and number 6 in the ranking for his 5 top 10 finishes this year, including a 2nd place last week in the Alps de las Castillas; the Portuguese Tomas Bessa, who won the New Giza Open and his 5 top 10 finishes have taken him to number 8 in the ranking; Dutchman Davey Porsius, winner of the Hauts de France who has made 8 top 10 finishes to occupy number 10 in the ranking; French amateur Oihan Guillamondegui, winner of the Red Sea Little Venice, Frenchman Adrien Pendaries, who won Terri Dei Consoli, and the only Spanish winner of the season so far, Manuel Morugán, from Seville, who triumphed in the Abruzzo Open and in the last week achieved his second top 10 finish.

Ten winners will fight to improve their position in the table at the Fred. Olsen Alps in La Gomera. In total 84 golfers will play in this ranking event so competition will be fierce. There are three tournaments to go for a chance to automatically join the Challenge Tour.

The Fred. Olsen Alps de la Gomera has the support of Fred. Olsen S.A., the Canarian Golf Federation, as well as the Government of the Canary Islands, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Cabildo Insular de la Gomera, the Alps Tour and Kyocera. The promoter and organizer of the Tournament is JGolf. The Fred. Olsen Alps of La Gomera supports the celebration of the Solheim Cup 2023.
