Camiral Golf & Wellness celebrates "Best Courses in Spain" ranking

30 September 2024

Camiral Golf & Wellness, formerly PGA Catalunya, is celebrating another important accolade after both championship golf courses were recognised within Golf Digest’s latest ‘Best Courses in Spain’ ranking.

The world-renowned Stadium Course, a host venue of the Spanish Open on multiple occasions, ranked #3, while its sister 18-hole layout, the Tour Course, secured 10th, underlining the destination’s current broader status as the No.1 Golf Resort in Spain*.

David Plana, CEO at Camiral Golf & Wellness, a European Tour Destination, said: “As we continue to celebrate our 25th anniversary year, this latest accolade from Golf Digest is a testament to the team’s ongoing commitment to excellence, underpinned by our continued course investments.

“On our Stadium Course, for example, we have changed the turf on its fairways to a native, drought-tolerant species, which has helped reduce water consumption by 35%, significantly enhancing course presentation, turf conditions and the playing experience. These efforts, along with other key improvements, continue to elevate our offering, ensuring we present a world-class golfing destination to our members, residents and international visitors.”

As part of a far-reaching, broader investment in the golf customer experience, this year has seen the renovation of the architect-designed pro-shop, a new fleet of premium Club Car Tempo vehicles and TiCad electric trolleys, as well as the installation of TrackMan Range at The Golf Hub, the resort’s highly-acclaimed, open-to-all practice facility.

Beyond the fairways, Camiral Golf & Wellness, located just outside the gastronomic city of Girona and just one hour from Barcelona, is home to the luxurious, five-star Hotel Camiral, offering a wide range of dining facilities, including the new Origin restaurant and the refreshed Camiral Bistro (formerly known as 1477 restaurant), a wide range of sport and leisure facilities and luxurious wellbeing treatments at the state-of-the-art Wellness Centre.

NOTES TO EDITORS
Camiral Golf & Wellness, the new name for PGA Catalunya, first opened in 1999 and quickly established an international reputation for outstanding quality. It is ranked the number one resort in Spain by Golf World magazine, which also recognises the Stadium Course in its World Top 100 Courses.

The 36-hole resort also offers two accommodation options – the 5* Hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of The World, and LAVIDA Hotel, aimed at the active traveller. At its heart is the Wellness Centre (opened in 2021) that offers personalised healing and high-tech treatments, akin to those found at specialist clinics and elite athletic facilities. In addition, the European Tour Destination comprises a discreet, low-density real estate development, with first-class leisure facilities and a select number of villa plots, stylish modern semi-detached villas, and luxury apartments.

Having achieved its GEO Certified status in 2013 and bestowed IAGTO’s Sustainability Award for Nature Protection in recognition of excellence in environmental and social responsibility in 2020, Camiral Golf & Wellness has been implementing a maintenance and upkeep programme more akin to that of a natural sanctuary than a golf resort, in line with policies established in the European Green Deal and the EU biodiversity strategy 2020-2030.

Conveniently situated close to Girona-Costa Brava Airport (five-minute drive) and Barcelona International Airport (one-hour drive), the venue also benefits from the high-speed train line that links Girona (approximately 15 kilometres from Camiral Golf & Wellness) to the rest of Spain and Europe, which provides even faster connections to major cities, including Barcelona, which can now be reached in just 37 minutes.
