The Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta in Portugal has confirmed its status as one of global golf’s most prestigious new venues after joining a select group of courses to partner with the iconic Swiss watch brand Rolex.
The new collaboration between Vanguard Properties – the owner of Terras da Comporta – Rolex and David Rosas, the regional representative of Rolex, will see the installation of several of Rolex’s world-famous watches and clocks at the exclusive venue near Lisbon.
Renowned for its commitment to excellence, Rolex has had a historic relationship with golf for more than five decades since first partnering with golf legend Arnold Palmer in 1967, and has partnered with landmark tournaments and courses, as well as the world's most prestigious courses.
Named as the ‘World’s Best Golf Course’ at last year’s World Golf Awards, The Dunas Course – architect David McLay-Kidd’s first golf course design project in mainland Europe – has won widespread international acclaim since opening in October 2023. A second 18-hole championship layout, The Torre Course, is set to open this summer and is being tipped to make a similar impact when it is unveiled in June.
“Having the iconic Rolex brand at The Dunas Course is more than a recognition of the course's international status,” said Rodrigo Ulrich, director of golf at Terras da Comporta. “It is also a reinforcement of Terras da Comporta's commitment to offering memorable and incomparable experiences to our players and visitors.
“With this collaboration, The Dunas Course has reaffirmed its position as a place where time, sport and sophistication converge. Rolex's presence on the course symbolises not only the precision and punctuality that are fundamental to the pace of the game, but also the prestige and quality that define the golf experience in Terras da Comporta.”
José Cardoso Botelho, CEO of Vanguard Properties, said: “The integration of Rolex at The Dunas Course reflects not only recognition of the excellence already achieved in this field, but also our vision for Terras da Comporta as a world-class global destination. We intend to continue to develop projects that combine innovation, sophistication and respect for nature, creating spaces that offer truly unique experiences and raise quality standards in every detail.”
Pedro Rosas, CEO of David Rosas, added: “This moment reinforces Rolex's historical connection to golf, a sport that shares the same values of precision, elegance and dedication to excellence. It is a privilege to collaborate on this partnership which affirms Terras da Comporta as a leading destination in the worlds of golf and luxury.”
Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, Terras da Comporta features two large developments: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares.
Situated one hour south of Lisbon in a secluded setting on the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, the par-71 Dunas Course has been created over 84 hectares of natural, sandy terrain and has been built using the highest sustainable practices.
Designed by European Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia, the Torre Course will be the first major layout that the Spaniard has held overall design responsibility for. Inspired by Real Club Valderrama – the 2017 US Masters champion’s favourite course in the world – the par-72 course will feature generous fairways, small greens and measure 6,575 metres from the back tees when it opens.
As well as two 18-hole golf courses, Terras da Comporta will boast a wide range of lifestyle and sporting facilities including tennis, padel, pickleball and horse riding. The development also includes an array of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.

About Terras da Comporta:
The Terras da Comporta development, located in the heart of Comporta, is the result of Vanguard Properties’ acquisition of assets from the Herdade da Comporta Real Estate Fund in 2019.
It is made up of two large developments: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land in the Alcácer do Sal municipality, and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares of land in the Grândola municipality. Both enjoy exceptionally tranquil and beautiful locations in dense pine forest. Torre is found near Comporta Village and its iconic rice fields, and Dunas, eight kilometres to the south, is next to Praia do Pego beach.
The Terras da Comporta project is founded on the best environmental, economic and social sustainability practices, assuming a long-term perspective that will undoubtedly contribute to the region’s development. Positioned in the market’s most exclusive segment, where aspects such as quality, comfort and privacy are given top priority, both Torre and Dunas offer a wide range of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.
There will also be excellent sports facilities including two 18-hole golf courses designed by world-renowned golf architect David McLay-Kidd (Dunas) and US Masters champion Sergio Garcia (Torre). Having been originally launched by McLay-Kidd in 2010, the Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta opened for play on June 1, 2023, with its official inauguration taking place in October 2023.
