Terras da Comporta, the landmark golf and real estate destination on Portugal’s west coast, has partnered with California-based brand Garmany Golf and the Southern California PGA to further elevate its rapidly growing status in the US market.
The new collaboration will see Garmany Golf and the SCPGA arrange hosted trips for professionals and amateurs to Terras da Comporta – home of the popular Dunas Course, which opened to universal acclaim in 2023.
Founded in 2009, Garmany Golf is a tour operator dedicated to crafting unforgettable golfing experiences across the globe. Terras da Comporta director of golf Rodrigo Ulrich took the decision to partner with them after witnessing the success of the strategy during frequent trips to the US.
Ulrich said: “After visiting the US many times, it became evident that the way to market is via the Pros, and we believe that we have to support those that support us. Garmany Golf has worked with the SCPGA and they introduced us to them.
“It is the most efficient way to reach a key market for us. Combined with an elite tour operator like Garmany Golf, it is already proving to be a huge success.”
The new partnership is the latest illustration of Terras da Comporta’s desire to promote The Dunas Course to global markets, after exhibiting at The PGA Show for the last two years and attending the Asia Golf Tourism Convention for the first time in March.
Bud Garmany, president and founder of Garmany Golf, said: “The partnership between Garmany Golf, The Dunas Course and the SCPGA is a landmark partnership, the first of its kind. The opportunity to partner with The Dunas Course, one of the great new courses of the world and one that has the highest standards of hospitality of any golf course we’ve ever worked with, and to combine that partnership with the SCPGA, a benchmark section for PGA sections across the country, is truly a very special collaboration. We look forward to showcasing the beauty and majesty of The Dunas Course to the world-class membership of the SCPGA!”
Nikki Gatch, executive director and CEO of the Southern California PGA, said: “The SCPGA is thrilled to begin our partnership with The Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta and Garmany Golf. This is a unique and unparalleled partnership that showcases Garmany Golf’s world class experiences. Portugal bucket list experiences, together with the award-winning and ground-breaking Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta, is an incredible combination that we are thrilled to share with the PGA membership of the Southern California PGA.”
Located one hour south of Lisbon, The Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta is architect David McLay-Kidd’s first golf course in mainland Europe and has made headlines around the world since opening last summer – including being named as the ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ and ‘Europe’s Best New Golf Course’ at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, the par-71 layout is the first of two 18-hole courses that is being built at Terras da Comporta, with a second designed by European Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia set to open in summer 2025.
Measuring, 6,575 metres from the back tees when it is completed, The Torre Course – the first course that Garcia has worked on in Portugal – is set to feature a combination of risk-and-reward holes, tight fairways and small greens, with the Spaniard taking inspiration from his favourite course in the world, Valderrama.
Away from the fairways, an array of lifestyle activities will also be available including horse-riding, wellness, tennis, padel, pickleball and many other sports, with a wide range of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums also on offer.

About Terras da Comporta:
The Terras da Comporta development, located in the heart of Comporta, is the result of Vanguard Properties’ acquisition of assets from the Herdade da Comporta Real Estate Fund in 2019.
It is made up of two large developments: Torre, comprising 365 hectares of land in the Alcácer do Sal municipality, and Dunas, which occupies around 1,011 hectares of land in the Grândola municipality. Both enjoy exceptionally tranquil and beautiful locations in dense pine forest. Torre is found near Comporta Village and its iconic rice fields, and Dunas, eight kilometres to the south, is next to Praia do Pego beach.
The Terras da Comporta project is founded on the best environmental, economic and social sustainability practices, assuming a long-term perspective that will undoubtedly contribute to the region’s development. Positioned in the market’s most exclusive segment, where aspects such as quality, comfort and privacy are given top priority, both Torre and Dunas offer a wide range of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums.
There will also be excellent sports facilities including two 18-hole golf courses designed by world-renowned golf architect David McLay-Kidd (Dunas) and US Masters champion, José María Olazábal and Sergio Garcia (Torre). Having been originally launched by McLay-Kidd in 2010, The Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta opened for play on June 1, 2023, with its official inauguration taking place in October 2023.
