The Taylor Swift Factor Now Influencing Amateur Golf Events in Asia

17 July 2024

As Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour continues to captivate Europe, the financial boon her concerts bring to local economies has been nothing short of remarkable. Surprisingly, a similar phenomenon is unfolding with large amateur golf tournaments across Asia.

In June 2024, Hua Hin, a picturesque Thai seaside resort, welcomed 350 international golf vacationers from 21 countries for the weeklong Centara World Masters (www.thailandworldmasters.com). The influx of visitors filled hotels, delighted golf courses, kept spas bustling, and even brought smiles to local tuk-tuk drivers as both golfers and their non-playing partners enjoyed their stay.

This successful event was orchestrated by Golfasian (www.golfasian.com), Asia’s leading golf tour operator. Over the past nine years, the Centara World Masters has grown to become the largest amateur golf tournament in Asia. Mark Siegel, Managing Director of Golfasian, reflected on the journey: “When we started our events division, many in the hospitality industry were skeptical. However, our events have grown, and we expect to attract over 2,000 competitors in the next twelve months with tournaments planned in Thailand, Vietnam, and for the first time in 2025, the Philippines.”

Siegel further noted, “Tourist boards and the hospitality industry are now approaching us to bring our tours to their regions, recognizing the immediate financial benefits.”

Participants are treated like royalty, with hotels going above and beyond to provide a warm welcome, complete with parties and gala dinners. The golf courses and their charming Asian caddies also enjoy the bustling activity.

This scenario truly epitomizes a win-win for everyone involved.
