Wigwam Resort and Golf Club named "Best Of Our Valley" and "Best In State"

28 June 2017

The Wigwam, an iconic Arizona resort, and its historic golf club have been named to Arizona Foothills Magazine’s “Best of Our Valley” list, taking home top honors in five categories, including Best Resort and Most Challenging Golf Course – The Gold Course. In addition, Golfweek Magazine recently named The Wigwam’s Gold Course to their “Best in State” ranking of top Arizona golf courses.

Since 1997, Arizona Foothills Magazine has celebrated the latest and greatest in Valley luxury. The popular Phoenix/Scottsdale publication features everything from the finest resorts and travel destinations to fabulous eateries and places to live. The “Best of Our Valley” awards are voted on by readers of Arizona Foothills through an online poll. In Arizona Foothills’ April 2017 issue, The Wigwam was named “Best of Our Valley” in the following award categories:

· Best Resort
· Best Relaxing Resort Pool
· Most Luxe Accommodations
· Best Pro Shop
· Most Challenging Golf Course – The Gold Course

In addition to the “Best of Our Valley” awards, Golfweek Magazine recently named The Wigwam’s Gold Course to their prestigious list of the “Best Courses You Can Play, State-By-State.” Among the criteria used by Golfweek’s panel of course raters includes: ease and intimacy of routing, variety and memorability of par 3s, 4s and 5s; basic quality of conditioning; and the “walk in the park” test.

Since undergoing a $35 million multi-phase resort and golf course renovation, The Wigwam has returned to the top of many local and national rankings of best places to stay and play. In December 2009, The Wigwam (including the golf courses and resort property) was purchased by JDM Partners, led by sports icon Jerry Colangelo. In recent years, JDM has continued to invest in The Wigwam through numerous property improvements – including new interior décor, a new pool complex with both adult and family areas, new restaurants and bars featuring al fresco dining and entertaining areas, golf course renovations on the Gold and Patriot/Blue courses, and a variety of new social areas and event lawns. The resort will celebrate 88 years on Nov. 28, 2017.

Situated on an estate-like setting, The Wigwam spans over 440 acres and features 331 casita-style guest rooms, including 70 suites and two presidential suites, crafted from distinctive adobe architecture. The only resort in Arizona to offer 54 holes of championship golf on-site, The Wigwam also features the 26,000-square-foot Red Door Salon & Spa, three pools, and five unique dining options. The Wigwam invites guests to create new traditions and lasting memories by participating in a variety of activities from morning nature walks, lawn games, daily fitness classes, tennis clinics, wine-tasting events and more.

About Wigwam Golf
The Wigwam is Arizona’s only 54-hole golf resort. The Heritage Course is a Robert “Red” Lawrence design, while the Gold and Patriot courses were both designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Both Jones-designed courses have recently undergone extensive renovations focused on modernizing the 50-year-old layouts while still keeping the master architect’s original strategic-intent in place. The results have been spectacular, with the Gold Course recently vaulting to the top of best-in-state rankings. And, unlike the many desert golf courses found throughout the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, The Wigwam’s Gold, Patriot and Heritage courses are all true parkland courses with parallel fairways and greens, make finding your ball and hitting your next shot even easier.

The Wigwam’s Gold Course has hosted many signature tournaments over the years, including numerous U.S. Open Qualifiers, U.S. Amateur Qualifiers, several NCAA Regional Championships and the annual Patriot All-America Invitational, one of the top amateur competitions in the world. The 7,430 yard, par 72 course has also received various industry awards and accolades since opening in 1965, including being named one of the “Top 100 Golf Courses in America.” For more information, please visit www.wigwamgolf.com.
