After two years of postponements, the IAGTO Andalucía Trophy Cádiz (IATC) took place in Jerez de la Frontera from 23-25 May attracting more than 300 IAGTO member delegates, making it the largest of the six IAGTO Trophy golf tourism conventions staged annually in Spain since 2015.
The event attracted 115 golf tour operators from 18 power-house European markets and a further 6 tour operators from the USA, Canada and South America, along with over 180 golf tourism suppliers from Andalucía and the rest of Spain.
The event centred around a single day packed with 2600 pre-scheduled meetings where plans were put in place for golf travel sales to Spain for the 12 months ahead. Additional functions and the IAGTO Trophy golf tournament itself provided further networking opportunities, while 80 of the tour operators participated in pre and post inspections trips in the provinces of Cadiz, Huelva, Seville and the Costa del Sol, showcasing investments and developments made during the pandemic.
IAGTO Chief Executive, Peter Walton, said “This was our first in-person convention since 2019 and the relief, joy and sheer optimism from every single delegate was palpable right from the start. There is no doubt that we chose the right destination, the right location and the right time for this resurgent event. The tourist boards of Andalucía and Cádiz were fundamental to the success of this edition of the IAGTO Trophy and their presentation of carefully chosen venues in the largely pedestrianised city of Jerez de la Frontera was outstanding.”
Vice President of the Cádiz Provincial Council and head of the Provincial Tourist Board, José María Román, said “The IAGTO Trophy is an exceptional event for showcasing and marketing Cádiz as a golf destination. Golf tourism has a significant impact on the economy of Cádiz, including the direct, indirect and induced effect, and in 2019 attracted 172,000 visitors to the province, with an average spending of 122 euros per day: almost 40 euros above the average spending of vacation tourists in this province.”
Secretary General for Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Muñoz, said “We consider that this event will boost the promotion and marketing of Andalucía’s golf offering and consolidate our position as a world leader in golf tourism". Muñoz added “In addition to more than one hundred first-class golf courses and facilities, Andalucía represents a powerful business model based on quality, prestige and diversity”.
