Mexico To Host IGTM 2007
23 November 2006
- Mexico host of the IGTM 2007
- Mexico Wins ‘Golf Destination of the Year for Latin America & Caribbean’
- Lorena Ochoa fights her way to top of the pack of female golfers.
Dubbed ‘Queen of the Overlooked’, the rise and rise of female golfer Lorena Ochoa
is a true success story. Miss Ochoa, almost unknown to the international media until
recently, gained her 6th win in the LPGA Tour this season, and has been causing
shockwaves not only in ‘football mad’ Mexico, but globally. Her recent victory has
positioned her as the top world female golf professional of 2006, a small step in
her ambitious drive to be world number 1.
Further to a recent study conducted by Peter Walton of the IAGTO, The Mexico Tourism
Board is proud to announce that the country has been named as ‘Golf Destination of
the Year for Latin America & The Caribbean’. This award is given during
the closing ceremony of the International Golf Travel Market held in Marbella, Spain.
This recognition is extremely well timed with the equally welcome news that Mexico
has just been invited to host next years IGTM. The wonderful white sands and turquoise
waters of the Mexican Caribbean have been selected to showcase the true potential
of this beautiful nation.
Golf in Mexico has shown no fear in its determined drive towards international recognition.
Using tourism as a catalyst, the sport generated an estimated $400 Million US Dollars
in 2005, attracting 600,000 visitors.
To find out more on the variety of destinations and courses, both present and future,
please contact the Mexico Tourism Board in your respective country. The Board has
offices in most major cities, which will be more than glad to assist you or guide
you in the right direction.
